As the state of Kansas begins to reopen, it’s important to us that we communicate to our community the changes that will be taking place at Twice Told Tales—at least for the time being. Please read on to learn about the ways that you can continue to support us (whether you shop in store or at home), the expectations that we will have for our customers at this time, and what you can expect from us. As a person, I tend to err on the side of over-communication. So while this may seem like a lot of words, I just want you to know where we’re coming from. If at any point, you need clarification or have additional questions, feel free to reach out!
Beginning Monday, May 4 we will open our doors to the public. For the time being, we will go back to our limited hours of Monday-Friday 10-5.
Our social-media shopping will continue as time goes on! Not only has it been a successful method of making sales for local folks who are at home, but non-locals have been enjoying purchases from Twice Told Tales as well! Shipping anywhere within the United States is $3.99.
We will continue to offer mystery boxes! If you are looking for a box of surprise books, send us a message! You set the budget and the theme—I’ll grab some things that will be perfect for you!
Gift cards are still the very best and easiest way to support us right now. Shipping is always free and gift cards CAN be used as payment over the phone.
Download your audiobooks from www.libro.fm/twicetoldtales. When you buy your books from Libro.fm, you’re helping to support us just as if you were shopping in-store with us!
For the time being, all customers, guests, and employees will be required to wear face-coverings. If you don’t have a mask with you, then give us a call and we can gather your items, take your payment over the phone, and then bring your items outside the same way that we do with all of our curbside order pickups.
We are also requesting that in-store shoppers try to keep their trips to around 15 minutes. We know that a lot of the joy of shopping in a bookstore comes from the ability to browse—and one day we will be there again! But right now, for the safety of our community, we need to limit the amount of time that people spend in-store. If there are certain types of books that you’d like to look through, calling ahead or asking when you enter the shop will be helpful so that we can pull books or direct you towards a section that may interest you.
Finally, we ask that all customers and staff maintain a six-foot distance from one another.
Selling Us Your Books:
Currently, we are accepting books by appointment only. As you know, we already have a small staff. Processing book buy-backs is only one of the time-consuming activities that is made even more challenging in the time of COVID-19. To make sure that our customers are safe and that our staff isn’t overwhelmed with book processing, we will only be able to accept a certain number of books per day.
Call 620-718-5023 to set up a time and to learn about what we’re able to accept at this time. We will also be making a separate social media post about what to expect from that phone call.
As we are sure you can appreciate, it will be a while before we are able to pay cash for books. Right now, after being closed for a month, we need to hold onto every dollar we can get. That won’t be the policy forever but it is the policy right now and we are grateful that you understand. Luckily, last year we started offering book credit for the books that you bring into us!
As the State of Kansas begins to enter into Phase 2 of the reopening process, we will revisit our policies and procedures and make changes that feel right to us.
Thank you so much for not only continuing to support us and keep us front of mind in these historic times, but for taking such care of our community—together.
