You know how they say March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb? This is the lion part. On Sunday it’s predicted to be -4 degrees. But the good news is that, guess what? It’s nearly over. This dreary winter is almost over. I promise! I have a huge display of gardening books at the front of the store to remind us all that the ground will absolutely thaw soon.
Even though it was cold and dreary and slow—things at the store were still so fun! We did our Blind Date With a Book Promotion and it went over SO WELL!! Lots of parents came in and picked out books for their kiddos for Valentine’s Day gifts. Lots of friends bought packages for Galentines day presents. But most of you just picked out a gift all for yourself. Which I love so much. You are so deserving of gifts for yourself.
After Valentine’s Day, we hosted a Chamber Connection event at the store! It was such a great experience! We don’t often make it out to events like this because, well, someone’s gotta man the store. So it was great to have so many people come to us! We met a lot of people in the community and got to talk all about our love for McPherson and all our ideas for the future.
Speaking of ideas for the future…
McPherson is a small town and oftentimes it can feel like we need to go outside of the city in order to seek out fun. And while it’s fun to travel sometimes, there’s so much room and opportunity for entertainment and connection right here at home! That’s why we created Story Time for Grownups!
Story Time for Grownups is a quarterly, after-hours event that we’ll be hosting in the store. It’s a great opportunity for those of you who just need to get out of the house and have a conversation with other adults once in a while. We’ll invite a guest to come and talk about cool things that they are passionate about. Maybe they’ll tell a story or share about an experience or a project that they’re working on. After that, we’ll mingle around, eat some snacks and just connect with one another!
So, our first Story Time for Grownups will take place Saturday, March 30 at 7:00 pm at Twice Told Tales. We’ve invited John Verssue and Evan Hiebert to come and talk to us about the goodness they’re putting out into the world. John and Evan are people with wild, exciting ideas. Right now they’re working on a couple of projects including a non-profit called No Stone New Media. Evan is also the host and executive producer Things Not Kept – a podcast that’s exploring the role of beliefs, how they shape us, what happens if we question beliefs systems, and what comes after.
In addition to talking to John and Evan, Noffy’s Sandwich Shop and Pub is really excited about Story Time for Grownups and will be helping out with snacks! We are so thrilled with the way that McPherson Main Street businesses love to help each other out. So please, keep supporting the businesses that help support your other favorite businesses.
Mark your calendars for March 30 at 7:00 pm! Make sure you’re following us on Instagram and Facebook for reminders. And RSVP in the Facebook event (once I make it—I’m still waiting on a few things before I can get that going) so that we know how many to plan for.
And lastly, if this sounds fun to you, SPREAD THE WORD!!!
