Twice Told Tales' First Annual Holiday Gift Guide

Hi everyone! Welcome! Grab a cup of something warm to drink. Let's get cozy.

If you're anything like me, you get way more joy out of giving gifts during the holiday season than you do out of opening your own. I get so excited putting together a little bundle of something for the people that I love. But just in case that isn't your particular forte--that's okay! That's why I put together this handy gift guide for you featuring books and products from our store as well as information about great things you can buy at other places around McPherson as well! Our community is full of incredible businesses with incredible offerings and every dollar you spend here goes to real people and real families during the holiday season.

If you're looking for something special for someone special, leave us a comment or send us a private message and we'll see what we can come up with! In the meantime, look through these and get your ideas flowing!

First up, your mom/ aunt/ best friend who is forever watching Hallmark Christmas movies:

Turn off that TV and dig into a stack of holiday books like Debbie Macomber's Choir of Angels, John Grisham's "Skipping Christmas", or David Sedaris', "Holidays on Ice." And don't forget to tuck in a little gift card to Heartbeat Coffee to make their reading session extra cozy and delicious.

For the growing family that has so much going on: Stop in and grab one of our 2019 family calendars--it's got the convenience of a wall-calendar but with the ability and room to schedule everyone's different activities so that everyone can be on the same page! Combine that with a box of Beverly Cleary books and a gift certificate to B&B Theaters and you've set this family up with some really fun together times as well.

For your brother who sold everything he owns and now lives in a van in the Pacific Northwest (or is that too specific? Am I the only one who has one of those?): Remind him of his love for Kansas with these super great stickers from Heartlandia tucked inside this vintage copy of "The One Burner Gourmet". Throw in a couple of handy field guides and don't forget to include an iTunes gift card so that he can download the latest album by McPherson's own, I Heard a Lion.

For your dad who loves a good biography: Wrap up this beautiful copy of "A Reporter's Life" by Walter Cronkite or "John Adams" by David McCullough. Don't forget to include a gift card to Twice Told Tales so that he can refill once he's through.

For your coworker that you don't know too well but you drew their name for Secret Santa this year: Don't overthink it! Stick to the classics: a gift certificate to Main Street Deli (does it get more classic than that?), one of these sweet desk calendars to dress up their space, and an Agatha Christie mystery. Classic.

For your cousin who proudly wears the label, "Social Justice Warrior": A box of note cards for mailing to their congresspeople and a stack of books like "No Impact Man", "In the Place of Justice", and "The Female Eunich." And don't forget a gift certificate to Noffy's Pub to help them refuel.

For your dear friend who pines for a life on the English Countryside: A copy of "Pride and Prejudice" or "Jane Eyre" along with their matching Litographs and a gift card to Cook's Nook for a new tin of tea.

For your spouse who loves to read mysteries but you're afraid they've already read them all: Introduce them to a new author! Kate Atkinson has some incredible detective mysteries as well as Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. The Maisie Dobbs series by Jacqeline Winspear has gained new popularity in recent months and the copies that we have in stock are in excellent condition. Perfect for gift giving.

Now, some of the appeal of a used bookstore is the thrill of the hunt and the fact that whatever's on the shelf is what's in stock. With that in mind, by the time you get eyes on this blog post, it's possible that some of these books may have sold. But that's okay! We'll come up with something together to find an incredible replacement.

Happy Holidays! Keep it fun!
